Heidemann Family Vacation '08

This year the Heidemann Family Vacation was spent just outside of Leavenworth, WA at the Kahler-Glen Resort. Mom, Dad, Kate, Anne and grandma flew up Thursday morning and stayed at our house. Friday, while Mike and I worked, the five of them checked out Seattle and bought salmon from the fish market. Friday night we went to Gino's with Kate's friend Theresa who was visiting. Saturday after Mike got out of class, we drove to our resort which was just across the street from the Wenatchee State Park, which has a huge lake. Saturday evening "the kids" took our new kayaks out on the lake and made it back just in time for Mike to grill up 2 pounds of fresh Salmon! Sunday morning we attempted a hike, but at the very beginning of the trail a huge tree had fallen blocking the path. Mom, dad and grandma turned back but "the kids" kept going till we were eaten alive by mosquitoes. That afternoon we went to Leavenworth, a Bavarian town, and had some authentic German food. Sunday was also Anne's birthday so we celebrated with some ice cream cake and a game of Rummikub when we got back. Monday, the family attempted another hike (grandma stayed back to read her newspapers) but only got about 15 minutes down the trail before it became a rushing river. We were forced to turn back but then was able to spend the afternoon at the beach on the lake and even managed to get mom and dad in the kayaks!
Unfortunately the water was a little choppy and they were both nervous! That evening we had an awesome pasta dinner (cooked mainly by me, Kate and Anne since we didn't help with the salmon dinner!) Tuesday we had to say goodbye as everyone had to leave early to head back to the airport it was a sad goodby with a few tears but we had a great trip together!
